For decades, Institut Curie has served as the reference center for breast cancer, pediatric cancer, eye tumor and sarcomas (tumors that occur in the bones and soft tissues).
Every day, more than 3,600 researchers, physicians, caregivers, technicians, and administrators work together to defeat cancer.

From Fundamental Research to Innovative Care
The cancer research model designed by Marie Curie “from fundamental research to innovative care” is still state-of-the-art today. By combining fundamental research, clinical research, care, and training at the same campus in Paris, Institut Curie is one of the best research centers in Europe.
Institut Curie hosts researchers from 80 countries, develops partnerships with major American universities, and works in close collaboration with scientists from around the world.
In 2019, Institut Curie launched three projects in tandem with teams from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) in the United States.
Promoting interdisciplinary research and developing translational research
Institut Curie’s Research Center promotes interdisciplinary research through 12 mixed research units.
Translational research lies at the interface between basic and clinical research, aimed at facilitating and accelerating exchanges between cognitive research and research oriented towards patients and care.
With this method, and according to the model inspired by Marie Curie and Claudius Regaud, the Research Center and the Hospital complex established in 2014 the Medical-Scientific Programme (PMS) facilitates interactions between researchers and doctors.
A Comprehensive Cancer Center of Excellence
In 2019, Institut Curie was awarded the Comprehensive Cancer Center label of excellence by the Organization of European Cancer Institues (OECI). It recognizes Institut Curie as a Cancer Expertise Center focusing on multidisciplinary, translational research and clinical-research trials.
